The funeral will be held from Brandon Funeral Home, 305 Wanoosnoc Rd., Fitchburg on Saturday, February 18 with a service in the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church 1319 Main St., Fitchburg at 11:00am. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Friday, February 17 from 4-7pm.In lieu of flowers the family request memorial contributions be made to the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church.
FITCHBURG- William “Bill” Panagiotes, of Fitchburg, 89, passed away on Wednesday, February 15th peacefully at home with his beloved wife, Irene Panagiotes by his side.
Bill, or “Chili” as his friends called him, was born on January 14, 1928. He was the son of Mantheos and Amalia (Millios) Panagiotes, and was brother to his eight siblings, Chris, Jimmy, Ethel, Helen, Tom, George, Peter, and Steve.
Bill, a lifelong resident of Fitchburg, enjoyed Greek music, singing, sports, business, traveling to Greece, and spending time with friends, family, and dining with his grandson, Adam, with whom he had a special bond. As a son to Greek immigrants that grew up through the Great Depression, he was proud of his heritage and had an unbridled desire to provide a better life for his family. Bill was a successful entrepreneur, he is best known for owning and operating the former Buttercup Hill Club, the Ayer House of Pizza, and, his last restaurant, Country Pizza. It brought him great joy when people came up to him to say how much they remember and loved his establishments.
Although he was successful in business, his greatest prize was marrying his wife of 66 years, Irene Panagiotes, who he proudly proposed to on their second date.
He is survived by his wife Irene (Koutsos) Panagiotes, son, Steven W. Panagiotes and wife Nancy Panagiotes; daughter Athena Costa and husband Giuseppe (Joe) Costa; son Mark Panagiotes, daughter Maria Rafalski and husband David Rafalski; brother James Panagiotes; sister; Ethel Panagiotes; Grandchildren Adam Costa, Erica Costa, Alexa Costa, and Steven Panagiotes.
