The funeral will be held from Brandon Funeral Home, 305 Wanoosnoc Rd., Fitchburg on Friday, July 15, with a Mass in Saint Leo’s Church in Leominster at 10:00am. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, July 14, from 4-7pm in the funeral home.

OBITUARY

 

South Yarmouth – William “Billy” McNally, 75, of South Yarmouth, formerly of Fitchburg, passed away Monday, July 11, in Wingate at Brewster.

Billy was born in Fitchburg, the son of the late Thomas and Anne (Buttafuso) McNally. He was a graduate of Fitchburg High School with the class of 1960. He was a three letterman including basketball, baseball and co-captain of the 1959 football team.  Billy enlisted into the US Marine Corps, where he proudly served his country.

 

Billy retired from Verizon after 26 years of service.  He was an avid sportsman, loved to play hockey with the Old Timers Hockey League, received the 7th Player Award 2 years in a row, and was inducted into their Hall of Fame. Billy also loved to play golf and achieved two holes in one, one at the Monoosnock Country Club, and the other at Iyanough Golf Club. He loved running; he often participated in the local 5K races, and also the Falmouth Road Race. Billy also coached Little League in North Leominster, and Fitchburg Pop Warner.  Along with his brother Fran, Billy was an avid hunter, and always enjoyed their hunting trips to Vermont. He also enjoyed fishing with his grandson Casey.  Billy was a member of the Leominster Knights of Columbus, the South Fitchburg Social Club, Retired Men’s Club of Cape Cod, and the Moose Lodge.

 

He leaves his wife of 54 years, Rayanne (Joyal) McNally of South Yarmouth; two children David McNally and wife Roxanne of Louisiana, Catherine Desgroseilliers and her husband Al of Ashburnham; grandchildren, David J. McNally, Casey Desgroseilliers, Madeline McNally, and Shaye Siciliano; siblings, Francis McNally and wife Alice of Townsend, Richard McNally and his companion Laila Salo of Leominster, Susan Surprenant and her husband Chuck of FL, and Deborah Pappas and husband William of Leominster.

Billy was predeceased by his son Michael McNally in 2011.
