WALSH- The funeral will be held Monday, May 11, from Brandon Funeral Home, 305 Wanoosnoc Road, Fitchburg with a funeral Mass at 11 am in St. Anthony of Padua Church, 123 Salem Street. Burial will be in St. Bernard’s Cemetery. Calling hours are Sunday, May 10 from 4pm to 7pm.

Thomas R. Walsh lifelong resident of Fitchburg; 82

FITCHBURG- Thomas R. Walsh, age 82, died peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, May 5, 2015.

He was born in Fitchburg on January 13, 1933, the son of the late John B. and Ida E. (Heins) Walsh, and had resided in Fitchburg all of his life. He graduated from Fitchburg High School in 1951 and Fitchburg State University in 1960 with a B.S. in Education. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He served in several U.S. Air Force Bases was well as in Japan and Korea. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Staff Sergeant. In high school he played football, basketball, and golf; he also acted in many plays and was the President of the Dramatic Club. In college he played basketball and golf.

He was the past President of the IAABO #14, past President of the North Worcester County Baseball Officials. He refereed in many high school and college football and basketball games throughout New England. He was Umpire in Chief of both Fitchburg and Leominster Babe Ruth Leagues.

An avid golfer his entire life, he was a 48 year member of Oak Hill Country Club where he was a past member of the Board of Directors and ran the Louis Cioffi, Jr. Memorial Golf Tournament to benefit the Jimmy Fund. He was also a member of Biddeford-Saco Country Club in Saco Maine.

He taught at Oakmont High School for one year before going into sales. He worked for several companies throughout his career in the pharmaceutical and medical device field retiring in executive sales management from IOLAB a Johnson & Johnson Company. Following his retirement, he drove vans for M.O.C. and MART.

He loved to spend time with his family and especially his grandsons. He enjoyed spending his summers in Ocean Park, Maine. He also loved to travel, going to Europe many times and taking cruises to Nassau, Bermuda and Alaska.

He leaves behind two daughters Sheila of San Jose, CA, Susan and her husband Scot Haigh and one son Martin and his wife Amy (Roux), two grandsons Thomas (T.J.) and Matthew Haigh, one brother Edward Walsh all of Fitchburg. He was predeceased by his wife of 55 years Patricia (Cioffi) Walsh, a sister Patricia Beer and a brother Robert Walsh. He also leaves several nieces and nephews.
