Thomas Miller Harris, 81, lovingly known as "Tom", passed away peacefully on June 7, 2024. Born on September 27, 1942, in Leominster, MA, he lived a fulfilling life filled with love, respect, and honor. He was a dedicated family man, known for his unwavering commitment to his loved ones and his jovial spirit that made every family gathering memorable.
Tom spent the majority of his career working for the City of Fitchburg Housing Authority, retiring in 2004 after 28 years of faithful service. His passion and dedication in his role as a maintenance supervisor earned him much respect in the community. Tom was a proud member of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) and the Fitchburg American Legion, embodying the spirit of service and camaraderie that these organizations represent. His time in the Navy was a pivotal part of his life, and he often shared stories of his experiences on the USS Wasp. His refusal to accept an honorable discharge despite his injuries is a testament to his bravery and dedication. In his leisure time, Tom enjoyed photography and music, and his presence was a highlight at family events.
Thomas is survived by his beloved wife, Jeanne (Cormier) Harris, his children Barbara Maillet, and Pamela Harris, and her partner Kevin Foster, Danny Harris, and his wife Janea (Wilson) Harris. He is also survived by his grandchildren Dylan Funnell, Zachary Reeves, Sean Harris, Kaitlyn McCarty, and Conor McCarty, his brother Richard Harris. Thomas was preceded in death by his parents Bertie and Hannah Harris, his brother Henry Harris, and his sisters Joan and Mary Harris.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, June 17, 2024, from 4:00 - 7:00 pm at Brandon Funeral Home, 305 Wanoosnoc Road, Fitchburg, Massachusetts. A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at 11:00 am at St. Leo's Church, 128 Main Street, Leominster, MA. Burial will follow at 1:00 pm EDT at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 111 Glenallen Street, Winchendon, Massachusetts.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Tom's name to the Montachusett Veterans Outreach, 268 Central Street, Gardner, MA 01440.
