OBITUARY SR. JANET BADAGLIACCA, MPV FITCHBURG, MA JANUARY 27, 1936 – APRIL 28, 2017 Fitchburg – Sr. Janet Badagliacca was called to her heavenly home on Friday, April 28, from our convent in Fitchburg. Born in Fitchburg of the late Guy and Nancy (DiBenedetto) Badagliacca, she is survived by two sisters, Rosalie Marabello and Sr. Pauline Badagliacca, MPV. She was predeceased by her brothers Lawrence “Capo” and Paul. Sr. Janet entered the Venerini Congregation in February 1954 and pronounced her first vows in 1956. She earned her B.A. in Elementary Education at Anna Maria College and her Masters in Counseling from Fitchburg State University. In 1956 through 1998, she taught in various schools in the Albany, Providence, and Worcester Diocese. The greatest number of years were in the Worcester Diocese at St. Anthony’s in Fitchburg and Saint Anna’s in Leominster. In 1998 Sr. Janet established the Beacon of Hope program with Sr. Loretta Ciccarelli in Leominser. This program for mentally challenged individuals with developmental disabilities provided a much needed ministry, and has grown through the years. Sr. Janet has remained an active part of this ministry until her struggle with cancer made it impossible. The program continues through the generous assistance of St. Mark’s Church in Leominster, MA. Her love of teaching for forty-three years was followed by the same love for those being served by the Beacon of Hope. Sr. Janet felt that her ministries helped to nourish her love of nature in all its forms, her love of family and friends, and for her Venerini Community.
