With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of the dedicated and loving Sonia Aviles, who left us too soon on April 22, 2024. Born on February 28, 1971, in Isabela, Puerto Rico, Sonia was a beacon of strength and love in the lives of those she touched. She was a courageous woman who faced life's challenges with grace and a positive spirit. Sonia was the embodiment of the saying, "The love of a family is life's greatest blessing."
Sonia spent her early years in Brooklyn, New York before making Fitchburg, Massachusetts her home. She was a dedicated floor associate in the manufacturing industry, a role she fulfilled with an impressive work ethic. Sonia was an engaging presence, quickly becoming a cherished member of her work team. She was thoughtful and considerate, always taking the time to lend a listening ear or a helping hand to those around her.
In her personal life, Sonia was the heart of her family, a role she cherished. Her kitchen was the center of many family gatherings, where she would fill the air with the tantalizing aroma of her Puerto Rican dishes and the lively sounds of salsa music. Sonia had a great love for playing dominoes, a game that brought her family together in laughter and competition. Above all, her love for her family was paramount. Sonia was a devoted mother to her daughters, Kimberly Cruz and Amanda Cruz, and a beloved Lela to her grandchildren, Jazlynn Sanders, J’Lianna Sanders and Jonathan Jr. She derived her greatest joy from seeing her children and grandchildren’s bright futures unfold.
Sonia leaves behind to mourn her loss, her daughters Kimberly Cruz and Amanda Cruz, her son-in-law Jonathan Naanaa, her grandchildren Jazlynn Sanders, J’Lianna Sanders and Jonathan Jr., her step-father Dilcio Acosta, her ex-husband Carlos Cruz, her siblings Evelyn Aviles, Walter Aviles, Dilcio Jr. and step-sister Mayra Acosta. Sonia was preceded in death by her beloved mother, Carmen Cuevas.
In the words of Maya Angelou, "I sustain myself with the love of family." Sonia Aviles lived by this sentiment, her life a testament to the power of family love. She will be deeply missed, but her spirit lives on in the hearts of those she loved. We encourage all who knew Sonia to leave memories and upload photos to her memorial page. Her life was a gift, her memory a treasure. She was loved beyond words, and will be missed beyond measure.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2024, at 4:00 pm at the Brandon Funeral Home, located at 305 Wanoosnoc Road, Fitchburg, Massachusetts, 01420.
