A private funeral service for family and friends will be held in the Emanuel Lutheran Church in Fitchburg. Brandon Funeral Home, 305 Wanoosnoc Rd., is assisting the family.In lieu of flowers the family request that memorial contributions be made to the Emanuel Lutheran Church, 1200 John Fitch Highway, Fitchburg, MA 01420.
OBITUARY
Leominster – Skaidrite A. (Blakis) Stegers, 92, of Leominster, passed away Wednesday, August 31, in Leominster Hospital.
Skaidrite was born in Liepaja, Latvia on December 20, 1923. She and her family were taken from their homes and spent the duration of WWII in Displaced Persons camps in Germany, where she met her husband. In 1949, she emigrated to the United States and lived most of her life in Freehold, New Jersey, where she was very active in the Latvian community.
She moved to Leominster several years ago to be closer to her daughter and was loved and cared for by the staff at Sunrise Assisted Living. Skaidrite was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother who treasured nothing more than spending time with her family.
She leaves her children, Brigita Clementi and her husband John of Princeton, MA, Uldis Stegers and his wife Pia of Jackson, NJ; Maris Stegers and his wife Jennifer of Newtown, PA, and Juris Stegers, her beloved son who now lives with his sister in Princeton. She also leaves eight grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Skaidrite was predeceased by her brother Indulis Blakis who lost his life in WWII.
