Shirley Ann Stevens, age 73, died at the home she built in Ashburnham, MA. on February 25, 2023. Shirley was born in Fitchburg, MA. to Everett and Pauline Wirtanen in 1949. She grew up in and was a lifelong resident of Ashburnham. After graduating from high school, Shirley attended Mount Wachusett Community College and then worked as an Accounts Receivable and Payable professional at a number of companies and local schools. Shirley was an avid reader who also enjoyed painting, singing karaoke with family and friends, playing bingo, and spending time at the Ashburnham and Westminster Senior Centers. She was happiest spending time with her late husband Ed on their boat on Lake Monomonac with family and channeling her inner child playing games, dress up, you name it with her grandchildren and countless nieces and nephews. Shirley was preceded in death by her loving husband of 34 years Edward “Ed” D. Stevens who passed away on August 27, 2020 and her parents Everett and Pauline Wirtanen. Shirley is survived by her daughter Barbara Dupuis and her husband Jason Andersen of Westminster MA; son Robert Dupuis and his wife Treon Dupuis of Newburyport MA.; three grandchildren: Theo Andersen, Margaux Dupuis, and Annie Dupuis; five sisters: Christine McGowan, Alice Green, and her husband Ritch, Brenda Whitemore and her husband Ernie, Lori Quinn and her husband Kirk, Rhonda Parenteau and her husband Gary; and one brother Everett Jr. as well as countless nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and dear friends. A visitation will be held on Monday, March 6, 2023, from 11 am to 12 pm at Brandon Funeral Home, 305 Wanoosnoc Road, Fitchburg MA. A brief service will be held at 12 pm in the funeral home. A private spring burial service will be at the Winchendon Veterans Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to the Glioblastoma Foundation in memory of Edward Stevens to support ongoing research for better treatments at Glioblastoma Foundation, P.O.Box 62066, Durham, NC 27715, or via glioblastomafoundation.org/get-involved/donate, or, go find your kids, grandkids, niece, nephew and give them a hug, play a card game or let them paint your nails. Brandon Funeral Home, 305 Wanoosnoc Road, Fitchburg is directing arrangements.
