The funeral will be held from Brandon Funeral Home, 305 Wanoosnoc Rd., Fitchburg on Friday, February 12, with a Mass in Our Lady of the Lake Church, Leominster at 10:00 am. Burial will follow in Saint Bernard’s Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, February 11, from 4-7pm.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the VNA Care, 493 Lancaster Street, 2nd Floor, Leominster, MA 01453 or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
OBITUARY
Lunenburg – Samuel J. Costa, 88, of Lunenburg, passed away on February 9, 2016 in his home.
He was born in Fitchburg on July 27, 1927, a son of the late Anthony and Pauline (Marcia) Costa. Samuel proudly served his country during both WWII and the Korean War in the U.S. Navy. For over 50 years he owned and operated the Colonial Barber Shop, which originated in Lunenburg and later moved Fitchburg. Samuel was also the owner of Costa Real Estate, where he was also a licensed appraiser. He was a founding member and former President of the Lunenburg Community Federal Credit Union and Chairman of the Lunenburg Zoning Board of Appeals. Samuel was a longtime volunteer on the Lunenburg Fire Department.
He belonged to the Lunenburg Sportsman’s Club and was also a member of the Lunenburg Rotary Club. Samuel was a lifetime parishioner of Our Lady of the Lake Church, where he served as an Usher and active member of the Renovation Committee.
Samuel leaves his wife of 60 years, Dora (Consalvo) Costa of Lunenburg; children, Debra DiPerri and husband Tom of Lunenburg, Cheryl Borjeson of Manchester, NH , and Stephen Costa and wife Charlene of Westford; grandchildren, Jennifer, Ashley, and Stephanie Borjeson, and Leann, Nathan, and Kristen DiPerri; sisters, Elaine St. Germain and Paula Whitney.
He was predeceased by his sister Virginia Salvatore.
The Costa family would like to extend a most sincere thank you to their private care givers, Doreen and Melanie, as well as all the doctors and nurses at Leominster Hospital and the VNA staff who cared for Samuel.
