Roscoe Albert Condon, affectionately known to his family and friends as Sugar, and to the many children he ministered to at church as Mr. Sugar, was a man of adventurous spirit, artistic creativity, and dedicated service. Born in Fitchburg, Massachusetts, on March 13, 1935, Roscoe lived a life filled with captivating experiences and close relationships. His journey on this earth came to a peaceful close as he entered into the presence of his Lord on February 9, 2025.
Roscoe's adventurous spirit was undeniable. A millwright by trade, he retired in 1990 from James River in Fitchburg, MA, but his true passion lay in exploring the great outdoors. From hiking, hunting, and fishing to mountain climbing and rafting the Colorado River, Roscoe found great joy and contentment in wandering through God's creation. His creativity shone brightly through his remarkable talent for bird carving. Known for his decoys, shorebirds, and waterfowl carvings, he received numerous awards, including several "Best of Show" honors. His hands were always busy, whether he was carving a masterpiece or fixing something around the house, his MacGyver-like skills were legendary.
However, it was his inspiring dedication to his faith and family that defined Roscoe's life. He was a constant presence in his church, involved in bus ministry, camp ministry, and Vacation Bible School. He met needs with a willing heart, offering a helping hand whenever and wherever it was required.
His family was his greatest joy. He is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 70 years, Louise (Brooks), his children Randy (Priscilla) Condon, Melodi (Glenn) Harriman, and Judi (Bob) Morrison, his grandchildren Christopher (Tiffany) Condon, Lee Kristen (Marcus) Weddle, Michael (Rebecca) Lincoln, Julia (Garet) Witrock, Jeffrey Harriman, and Micah (Alaina) Morrison, and great grandchildren Caroline, CJ, Charlie, Claire, Alistair, Anthea, Callum, Azalea, and Roy.
He is also survived by his siblings Maryellen Derosier, Buzzy (Henry) and Helen Condon, Nancy Lehnhart, Jo-Ann (Bob) Ruel, and David Condon, and many, many beloved nieces and nephews.
Roscoe was preceded in death by his parents, William and Grace Condon, his siblings Grace Rafuse, Buddy (William) Condon, Peggy Fasano, John Condon, Norma Babineau, and Richard Condon.
The family extends their warmest gratitude to the staff at Sterling Village, Autumn Hospice, and Ayer Valley Rehab for their compassionate care for Roscoe.
In lieu of flowers, we would be honored if you could make a donation to Beth Eden Baptist Church or to the Wilds of New England Christian Camp.
We invite you to share your memories and photographs of Roscoe on his memorial page as we continue to celebrate his remarkable life.
He is now on his greatest adventure!
