Robert “Bob” James Blanchflower passed away on Wednesday January 27, 2022 at the age of 94 after a short illness.
Bob is survived by his wife Virginia “Ginny” Blanchflower, his son Robert V. Blanchflower and daughter-in-law Elizabeth, his daughter Judith A. Giacoppe and fiance Steve Clickner, his grandchildren Olivia, Kristina, and Robert Blanchflower and Brianna and John Giacoppe, and three great-grandchildren Jamari, Gabriel, and Luna. He was predeceased by his son in law, Steve D. “Chico” Giacoppe.
Bob was born in Lancaster, Massachusetts on November 29, 1927. He grew up with his parents, James W. and Helen Clark Blanchflower, his step mother Ethel (Smith) Blanchflower, and his siblings Donald, Richard, Virginia, Betty, Dorothy, and Nancy. After high school, Bob served in the Navy for two years before returning to Massachusetts to marry his sweetheart, Virginia. Bob worked in his family lumber business and then went on to have a 30-year career at Mass Electric.
Bob was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather and a great lover of the outdoors. He served on the ski patrol at Mt. Wachusett and was an avid gardener who produced reliably delicious tomatoes. Bob was incredibly proud of the family that he and his wife, Ginny, built over 72 years of marriage. Often, when he was surrounded by his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, he would say “it doesn’t get any better than this.” Bob was known for his friendliness and incredible charm, and always had a smile and a kind word for everyone he met.
