A calling hour will be held in Brandon Funeral Home, 305 Wanoosnoc Rd., Fitchburg on Wednesday, April 4, from 9:00-10:00am. A service will begin at 10:00am. Burial will follow in St. Bernard’s Cemetery in Fitchburg.
In lieu of flowers the family request memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105.
Fitchburg – Rita M. (Pandiscio) Curtis, 88, of Fitchburg, passed away peacefully in the Broadview Assisted Living in Winchendon, with her loving family by her side.
Rita was born in Fitchburg on June 23, 1929, the youngest of seven children born to Antonio and Emmanuella (D’Agostino) Pandiscio. She was a 1947 graduate of St. Bernard’s Catholic High School, where she starred as the lead in the Senior Class play, the Phantom Tiger. Rita continued her education in New Jersey, graduating from St. Elizabeth College in 1951. Rita worked at Burbank Hospital as a Dietician, and spent her career Teaching Nutrition at the Leominster School of Nursing until her retirement.
Rita enjoyed summers at the Cape and wintering in Ft. Pierce, FL with her husband William. She would often accompany him to the Knights of Columbus, Council #99 for Bingo, where he was an Officer. Rita was a woman of great faith, and a lifelong parishioner of Madonna of the Holy Rosary Church.
Rita had a passion for people; her kind and social nature made it easy to love her. She was generous by nature, and even up until her last days, she was creating beautiful dried flower arrangements and seashell crafts for others. Rita was very talented in her Crewel needlework. She was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother; she will be greatly missed by everyone who had the pleasure of meeting her.
She is survived by her three sons, William A. Curtis, III and his wife Nancy of Ashburnham, Robert A. Curtis and his wife Julie of Fitchburg, and Steven B. Curtis and his wife Carolann of Winchendon; grandchildren, Carla Curtis, William A. Curtis, IV, Christopher Curtis, Steven B. Curtis, Jr., Michael Curtis, and Ryan Curtis; great grandchildren, Samuel Curtis, Mia Curtis, and Jack Bennett. Rita is also survived by extended grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends, especially those she met at the Broadview Assisted Living.
Rita was predeceased by her loving husband William A. Curtis, Jr., as well as her six siblings, Joseph Pandiscio, Michael Pandiscio, Lucius Pandiscio, Dorothy Condon, Anna Pandiscio, and Anthony Pandiscio. She was also predeceased by her dear friend Ruth Weeks, who was like a sister to her.
