The funeral will be held in Saint Joseph Church, 49 Woodland St., Fitchburg at 11am on Thursday, February 9. Burial will follow in Saint Joseph Cemetery. A calling hour will be held prior to the Mass on Thursday in Brandon Funeral Home, 305 Wanoosnoc Rd., Fitchburg from 9:30-10:30am. OBITUARY
Fitchburg – Rita A. (Legros) Melanson, 98, of Fitchburg, passed away on February 5, 2017 at the Rose Monahan Hospice House in Worcester.
Rita was born on March 1, 1918, in Fitchburg, a daughter of the late Andre and J. Delila (Lamy) Legros.
She was a 1935 graduate of Saint Bernard’s High School and worked for Comfort Slipper until she married.
Rita loved and cared for her parents, husband, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She took great pride and joy in her family. One could travel the world and not find a more skilled seamstress.
Rita is survived by three daughters, Pauline (Richard) Ippolito of Washington, DC, Jane (Shelley Silver) Melanson of Danbury, NH, Denise (Daniel) Henault Mulloy of Fitchburg; two sons, Lionel (Denise) Melanson of Lunenburg, Ronald (Jo-Anne) Melanson of Townsend. She also leaves a sister, Pauline Arsenault of Fitchburg. Rita is survived by ten grandchildren, Dominic and Benedict Ippolito of Washington DC, Eric (Shana) Melanson of Fitchburg, Nicole (Ryan) Melanson Rodriquez of Lunenburg, Adam (Emily) Fitzpatrick of Portsmouth, NH, Laurel Fitzpatrick of Newburyport, Shannon (Edward) Henault Goss, Stacey (Richard) Henault Thibault, both of Lunenburg, Robert Henault and Tara Mulloy, both of New York, New York; nine great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband of 65 years, Edgar J. Melanson in 2013, a son, Raymond J. Melanson in 1974, and three sisters, Claire Trainque, Juliette Arsenault, Sister Theresa Legros; five brothers, Robert, Wilfred, Romeo, Leon, and Norman Legros.
