Richard L. Waaramaa, better known as “Issi”, passed away at age 82 on Thursday July 19th 2018. To some he may have lived a simple life, but his exceptional faith in Christ, extra large family, and constant love for his Finnish culture made his life full beyond measure. He graduated from Fitchburg High class of 1955, served in the U.S. Air Force for 4 years, and then worked for Laakso as a pharmaceutical assembly machinist for 35 years. He was always searching for a way to serve others. He was a Brigade leader at Highland Baptist Church, a board member for Camp Cherith, and a senior mentor at New England Frontier Camp where he served for many summers. In his retirement years he volunteered countless hours as a Citizen On Patrol for the Fitchburg Police Department. Sports were a big part of his life. He was an avid golfer for many years and loved watching Fitchburg High School sports, as well as a several other local high school sporting events. Most importantly he couldn’t get enough of his grandkid’s sports competitions and he attended as often as he could. He leaves behind his bride of 60 years, Sandra (Martin) Waaramaa; 6 children, Lynda Stacy, Carin St. Onge (pre-deceased), Mark Waaramaa, Kara Wormell, Lisa Zorn, and Ingrid Murray; as well as 19 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren.
