FITCHBURG – Richard “Dickie” J. Schultz, 63 of Fitchburg, MA passed away Saturday, June 23, 2018 at Health Alliance Leominster Hospital, after a courageous battle, with his loving family by his side.
Dickie was born December 21, 1954 in Fitchburg, MA, son of Clifford Schultz and Lillian Mellett, and lived all of his life in the city. Dickie attended and graduated from Fitchburg High School, Class of 1973. His larger-than-life personality left an indelible impression on everyone he met.
For over 25 years, Dickie owned and operated Quality Lawn and Landscape Company. The dark green trucks, emblazoned with yellow/red/white lettering, were an unmistakable presence throughout central Massachusetts during that time. Dickie and Quality supported the community through sponsorship of youth sports and volunteered services for many projects, including the renovation of the baseball fields at Coolidge Park and the beautification project of downtown Fitchburg. Dickie will be remembered for his meticulous attention to detail and work ethic, inspiring a generation of landscape professionals. His entrepreneurial spirit will live on through his children’s restaurants, Dickie’s Grillin’ and Legends Bar and Grille, both in Fitchburg.
Dickie was also a long-time member of the YMCA health club, St. Anthony Parish, and a good friend of Bill’s. Members of these communities will undoubtedly miss his generous nature and infectious laugh. More recently, in retirement, he worked part-time for Dickie’s Grillin’ and Van Pool Transportation.
