Richard C. (Dick) Curran, 90, passed peacefully on Monday, July 24, 2023, at his home of 63 years in Fitchburg.
He was born in Portland, Maine and lived in South Portland until he enlisted in the US Navy in 1951. He was the son of the late Francis C. and Dorothy (Keough) Curran of South Portland, ME. He is pre-deceased by his loving wife of 67 years, Alice M. (Raymond) Curran. Although they were a team, Alice was the team leader, and Dick would not have had it any other way. Dick missed Alice every day.
Dick lived a simple life where his greatest joy was his family. He and Alice loved nothing better than visits from their children, especially with the grandchildren in tow. They both enjoyed spending hours upon days at the beach, a good meal, and a cold “drink”. Alice was an outstanding cook and Dick never missed a meal.
Dick survived and beat lung cancer at age 86, however he suffered from dementia over the past few years, but always knew his children and was always thankful for our daily visits. He was an easy-going man and never really showed any anger. One of his favorite sayings was “good enough!”. His wants were minimal, and we are all so grateful to have been able to keep him in his home these past few years.
Dick lived in Fitchburg and worked in the paper mills after leaving the Navy in 1955. He enjoyed a very long retirement. He is survived by his four children, Catherine Cloutier and her husband Stephen of Leominster, Leanne Curran and her husband Scott MacWilliams of Lee, MA, Susan Curran-Poirier and her husband Marc Poirier of Fitchburg, and son John Curran and his wife Mary Beth of Gardner. He also leaves 6 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his younger and only sister, Nancy Curran of Vero Beach, FL.
