The funeral will be held on Friday, March 18 from the Brandon Funeral Home, 305 Wanoosnoc Rd., Fitchburg with a mass in St. Cecilia’s Church, 180 Mechanic St., Leominster at 10:00 AM. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Calling hours will be held from 4-7 Thursday in the funeral home. .
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Highlands Nursing Home, 3rd Floor Alzheimer’s and dementia care unit, 335 Nichols Road, Fitchburg, MA or to Saint Cecilia’s Building Fund, 180 Mechanic St, Leominster, MA.
Leominster- Raymond J. Blanchette, 78 died March 15 at The Highlands in Fitchburg and had previously lived in Leominster and Boothbay Harbor, Maine. Mr. Blanchette is survived by his wife of fifty years, Lillian H. (LeBlanc) Blanchette of Leominster, one son and daughter in law, James Blanchette and his wife Sheila of Haverhill, one daughter, Tina Wilson of Ashburnham, two brothers, Henry Blanchette of Leominster, Paul Blanchette of Benninigton NH, and two sisters, Lorraine Blanchette of Leominster, Marie Noella McDowel of New York. He also leaves an extended “adopted” family that called him Pepere, especially Tammy Antil Aubuchon and Jacob Barrett.
He is predeceased by two sisters, Doris Blanchette, Cecile Blanchette and his son in law, Robert Wilson.
Mr. Blanchette was self-employed for many years as a carpenter. He took pride in his work and was known for building or remodeling many homes in the area. He also worked for the City of Leominster in the Building Dept. He served his country in the US ARMY. He was a former member of the American Legion in Maine and the Franco American Club in Leominster.
Mr. Blanchette appreciated the natural world around us and volunteered with the Nashua River Watershed Association as well as the local conservation commission. He also shared many years of camping, canoeing, and fishing with his family.
