Raymond David Harper, of Leominster, passed away on December 25, 2016. He died at home after a brief illness.
Ray was born in Leominster on June 26th, 1945 to David R. Harper and Elisabeth Middlemas. He was a member of the second graduating class from Nashoba Regional High School in 1963. A year later he married Georgeana Vana in Leominster. Ray graduated from Becker College in 1965 and was a life-long and proud fourth generation dairy farmer.
Ray’s political career began in the early 1970s as a city councilor in Leominster. He was elected mayor in 1980, a position that he was forever proud to have held. He was known around town to talk politics with all that he would meet while tending to his many farm stands through the summer or while delivering milk to area businesses throughout the region, a job that he started sixty-five years ago at his father’s side.
Ray is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his spouse Georgeana Harper, and his four children including David and his wife Paula of Leominster, Barbara Harper-Robichaud and her husband Daryl of Leominster, Deborah Harper-Padula and her husband Glenn of Weymouth and Stephen and his wife Colleen of Lancaster, as well as his sister Susan Smith and his niece Beth of Lancaster. Ray’s eight grandchildren, Sydney and Luke Harper of Leominster, Hayley, Mackenzie and Trevor Robichaud of Leominster, Nolan Padula of Weymouth and Olivia and Uilleam Harper of Lancaster will all miss their PaPa greatly.
Ray was an avid Red Sox fan twelve months of the year and would closely follow the exploits of his grandchildren, whether it be in the athletic arena, at agricultural fairs or in the performing arts.
