We are here to tell you about Peter VanCleve Phillips, also known as "Pistol Pete". He was an adventurer, a humble soul, and a man who loved like no other. He was born in Fitchburg, MA on January 8, 1958, Peter spent the majority of his life in Leominster, MA though previously you could find him in many different zip codes around the state. He left us to embark on his next big adventure on November 20, 2023, but not before leaving us with a lifetime's worth of laughter, love, and memories.
Peter was no ordinary man. In between his impressive career as an electrical engineer in microwave test equipment, where he held an astounding 19 patents in electronic calibration technology, he also found time to become a general contractor and build an entire development of energy-efficient homes. He even made the local news for his stellar energy performance! When he wasn't revolutionizing the RF calibration industry or building homes, Peter could be found flexing his muscles in the gym where he loved working on his technique for Olympic-style lifting or running the Boston Marathon at the ripe age of 40 and 41. He also thoroughly enjoyed taking people tubing on his boat and attempting to dislodge them from the tube at a high rate of speed. His legs might've been built for speed, but his heart was built for love, especially when it came to his family his beloved grandkids Nathan, Jaedin, Mikaela, and Piper, and his great-grandson Grayson.
Peter, an adventurous spirit, lived in various places. He grew up on Bixby Hill Rd. in West Groton, MA. He also spent many years in Reno, NV where he had a pet bobcat, before settling down in central MA. He had hobbies as diverse as his residences; from mountain biking and hiking to simply hanging out with his Goldendoodle Mia. He wasn't just about adrenaline, though. Peter was also known for his humility and love. He was the go-to person for any construction or automotive projects, always ready to lend a helping hand. Peter's family mattered most to him, and he is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Debra; his children, BobbieJo and her partner Abraham Echevarria, Jared, and his wife Kimberly (Shorey), and Shawn; his mother, Alice Stedman; and his sister, Cindy Phillips. He now joins his father, Cadis Phillips, and brother, Dan Phillips, on the other side.
As we bid farewell to Pistol Pete, we remember him as the adventurous, humble, and loving soul that he was. We invite you to share your memories of Peter and upload photos to the memorial page at www.brandonfuneral.com, to keep the spirit of this incredible man alive in our hearts. After all, he might have hung up his hiking boots, but his journey is far from over.
