Local Drum & Bugle Corps Legend

Paul N. Progin, 82, died Sunday, February 14, 2016 following a brief illness.

He leaves his son and daughter-in-law, Peter and Joyce Progin, a niece and nephew, 8 grandchildren, and multiple great grand children. He is predeceased by his loving wife Martha, and daughters Cindy and Maryann.

Paul served over eight years in the United States Navy as an interpreter aboard a number of navy ships, including the USS Worcester. After his service, he began his life long career as a bus driver for the greater Fitchburg-Leominster area.

Paul was a lifelong resident of Leominster. He co-founded the Joanettes All Girl Drum & Bugle Corps. in 1960. As one of the few all girl Drum & Bugle Corps in the area, the Joanettes won several championships in the Mayflower and Greater New England Circuits under his management. Through the Joanettes, Paul helped shape the lives of many young women in the area in a positive way. He was respected by, and more importantly he was loved by, all of them. And he loved them all in return as he would his own daughters.
