The funeral will be held from Brandon Funeral Home, 305 Wanoosnoc Rd., Fitchburg on Saturday, October 17 at 10:00 am in Saint Bernard’s Parish at Saint Camillus Church, 333 Mechanic St. Burial will be held privately. Calling hours are from 4-7 on Friday, October 16 in the funeral home.
Fitchburg – Owen M. O’Callaghan, 84, of Fitchburg, passed away in the Life Care Center of Leominster on Tuesday, October 13, 2015.
Owen was born in Dublin, Ireland on October 12, 1931, a son of the late Owen and Bridie (Noble) O’Callaghan. He arrived in the United States in 1964. For many years, Owen ran a construction business with his family. He was an avid golfer and belonged to the Westminster Country Club for over 35 years. Owen was a long time parishioner of Saint Bernard’s Parish, where he served as Lector.
While in Fitchburg, Owen belonged to the Irish American Association, the Knights of Columbus, and the Eastwood Club. He also loved ballroom dancing. Owen was loved by all; he brought smiles and laughs to all that knew him with his wit and charm. He will be sadly missed.
He leaves his children, Owen P. O’Callaghan and Jennifer Peck of Athol, Terence O’Callaghan and wife Leia of Fitchburg, John O’Callaghan of Leominster, Paul O’Callaghan of Templeton, and Susan Paskell and husband Bill of Fitchburg; brother John Callaghan of Leominster; sister, Margaret “Peggy” Fitzpatrick of Ireland; nieces and nephews.
Owen was predeceased by his wife Margaret “Rita” (Carmody) O’Callaghan and two sisters, Mora Powers and Brigdet Cuddy, both of Ireland.
