Nancy (Aho) Fors, 78, of Fitchburg, passed away Tuesday, February 2, 2021 at Health Alliance Hospital in Leominster from complications due to Covid-19. Nancy had courageously battled breast cancer for many years, living as an example of strength, determination and love to those around her.
Nancy was born in Fitchburg, MA on April 22, 1942, the oldest daughter of the late Leo E. and Vieno (Hautanen) Aho. She was a 1960 graduate of Fitchburg High School, where she served as class secretary and was both a Gold F student and recipient of the school’s General Excellence Award. She graduated from Becker Junior College in 1962 and went on to work for more than 45 years as a medical secretary, beginning with Children’s Hospital Medical Center in Boston, Burbank Hospital, and later for numerous specialists and primary care physicians in Fitchburg.
Nancy always looked forward to organizing and attending her high school class reunions. She was a proud member of the Finnish Center at Saima Park, where she was currently serving as its Membership Secretary. She was also a member of the Fitchburg Senior Center, the Council on Aging and the Fitchburg Historical Society, and was a Friend of the Fitchburg Public Library and Coggshall Park. Nancy loved to play bridge and was an avid reader. She enjoyed vacationing in the Lakes Region of New Hampshire, the shores of Maine, as well as taking several bus trips and cruises.
She derived her greatest joy, however, from her family. When her children were young, Nancy volunteered as a Girl Scout leader and Den Mother, as well as a parent assistant for the Wallace Figure Skating Club. She always looked forward to attending sports activities, skating shows, dance recitals and all programs related to her children and grandchildren. She was their ultimate cheerleader and supporter, no matter the occasion, and she will be so dearly missed.
Nancy is survived by her children, David Fors and his wife Audrey of Lunenburg and Lisa Valera and her husband Peter of Fitchburg, as well as her stepson Kim Fors and his wife Nancy and daughter in law Joyce Fors, all of Ashby. She also leaves 10 grandchildren: Tyler, Nicole and DJ Fors; Daniel, Domenic and Drew Valera; Derick Fors and Melissa O’Connell; Bryan Fors and Micaela Fors-Phillips, as well as 8 great grandchildren: Addison, Connor, Nora, Makenna, Cael, Jackson, Calvin and Lilyana.
She was predeceased by her husband of 45 years Richard Fors in 2013, her sister Priscilla (Aho) Conry in 2014 and her stepson Scott Fors in 2020.
