Michael Keenan Conry, 82, of Harvard, MA, passed away peacefully on March 28, 2023 with his family by his side. Michael was born on July 3, 1940 in Fitchburg, MA.During high school, Michael was recognized for his athletic talent as a runner, earning him notoriety and state championship titles amongst his peers. Long help records were now his to own as an all-star 1/2 miler and miler. His effortless strides carried him to victory time and time again. His accomplishments drew the attention of Villanova University who had offered him a full athletic scholarship. However, Michael chose to enlist into the Marine Corps after graduating high school, and subsequently served in the honor guard for JFK.Returning home after his military service, Michael went straight to work at the West Fitchburg paper mill. After many years of mill work, Michael was appointed to the Fitchburg Fire Department, where he proudly served for 25 years.
Retirement found Michael attending his grandchildren's sporting events, listening to the blues and Irish music, and enjoying the beaches of Hilton Head Island, SC and Falmouth, MA. Michael was well known for his quick Irish wit and contagious laugh. He was a fiercely devoted and loyal husband, brother and father. Michael had a strong work ethic and put 110% into all he did.
He was inducted into the Fitchburg High School Athletic Hall of Fame (Class of 1958) on October 9, 2005. Michael was predeceased by his wife, Judith (Leo) Conry of Fitchburg and brothers John Paul and Thomas Joseph Conry, both of Fitchburg. He is survived by his brother James Robert Conry of Stewart, FL, sister Ann Cormier of Fitchburg, daughter Patricia Jane (Conry) O'Connor, her husband, Matthew James O'Connor, their children Shaylah Keehan, Caoilin Keenan, Braeden Keegan, Darragh Keelan and Keelagh Kiernan O'Connor, all from Harvard, his son, Joseph Michael Conry of Leominster, and his two sons Joseph & Michael Conry of Bedford, NH.
Family and friends will gather to honor and remember Mike for a period of visiation on Friday, March 31, 2023, at Brandon Funeral Home, 305 Wanoosnoc Rd. Fitchburg, MA 01420, at 4:00PM until 7:00PM. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, April 1, 2023, at St. Bernard's Church, 333 Mechanic St, Fitchburg, MA 01420 at 10:00 AM. Burial will take place on Monday, April 3, 2023, at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 111 Glenallen St, Winchendon, MA 01475 at 11:00 AM. Military Honors will take place.
