The funeral will be held in Beth Eden Baptist Church, 350 Ashburnham St., Fitchburg on Friday, September 29 at 10:00am. Westminster – Melvin P. Longley, Jr., 76, of Westminster, passed away in his home surrounded by his loving family after a brief illness on September 26, 2017.
Mel was born in Ayer, MA on August 17, 1941, a son of the late Melvin P. and Louise B. (Hitchcock) Longley. Mel worked for the former E. K. Willard Tractor Co. in Leominster for 28 years, and later as a General Manager for Franklin Ford in Saint Albans, Vermont. Mel was always a hard worker, and was self-employed for many years repairing tractors, never retiring!
Mel leaves his wife of 55 years, Betty (Hautala) Longley of Westminster; children, Howard Longley of Westminster, Beth Ann Braier and husband David of Wisconsin, Suzanne Heiermann of South Carolina, and Victoria Ricker and husband James of Westminster; 5 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; brothers, Jonathan Longley and wife Nancy of Paxton, Ethan Longley and wife Judy of California, and Stephen Longley and wife Mona of Shirley, many nieces and nephews.
Mel was predeceased by his sister Catherine Longley and his son in law Stephen Heiermann
