The funeral will be held from Brandon Funeral Home, 305 Wanoosnoc Rd., Fitchburg on Monday, September 14 with a Mass at 11:00am in Saint Bernard’s Parish at Saint Camillus Church, 333 Mechanic St., Fitchburg. A calling hour will be held in the funeral home Monday morning from 9-10:30am. Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery.
Ashby – Mary A. (Walsh) Krapf, 87, of Ashby, passed away peacefully at the home of her daughter on September 7, 2015.
Mary was born in Fitchburg on July 4, 1928, a daughter of the late Thomas and Catherine (Lawless) Walsh. She graduated from Saint Bernard’s High School, the Burbank School of Nursing, and later earned her Bachelor’s Degree from Fitchburg State College. Mary worked for the Burbank Hospital for 23 years as a Nursing Supervisor, and as a Nursing Administrator for Monadnock Hospital as well as the Director of Nursing at Heywood Hospital.
Mary was extremely active in the Town of Ashby; she was the Vice President of the Historical Society, Chairperson of the Board of Health, Co-Chair of the Music Festivals, and was on the Board of Directors for the MART program. She was instrumental in the Northern Healthcare Coalition during their efforts to keep Burbank Hospital open. Mary was also involved as a Troop Leader for the Boys and Girl Scouts. She was a parishioner of Saint Camillus Church, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister.
She leaves her children, Thomas Krapf of NH and daughter in law Devorah Hanson, Kenneth Krapf and wife Ruth of Ashby, Helen O’Donnel and husband Thomas of TX, and Barbara Landry and husband Warren of Ashby; grandchildren, Beth Cormier, Hillary Krapf, Daniel Krapf, Erika Landry, Mary O’Donnel, Tom O’Donnel, Philip O’Donnel, Ruth Ann O’Donnel; 23 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; brother, John Walsh and his wife Mary of Fitchburg; sisters, Anna Henderson of WY, and Theresa Leous and husband Roger of NY.
Mary was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Malcolm G. Krapf in 2006.
The family would like to thank Susan Lowthers and Pat Neville of the Gardner Visiting Nurses for their exceptional care.
