Mark “Cookie” Emerson O’Connor, age 71, died of cancer, June 4th, 2021.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Kathryn of Fitchburg, MA, sister, Carolyn of Lincoln, MA, brother, Paul V, of Los Angeles CA, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother David.
Mark attended St Bernard’s Grammar School and graduated from St Bernard’s High School in 1968. While there he played football and made many lifelong friends. After graduation he briefly attended Fitchburg State where he was a member of the Fenwick.
He then took some time to explore the United States. He returned to Fitchburg and started a 33 year career as a driver for UPS.
Mark was a life-long season-ticket holder of his beloved New England Patriots. He enjoyed swimming at Fort Pond, attending innumerable music concerts, and being an all-around helpful guy. His favorite role was as Uncle Mark to his nieces, nephews, and the children of his friends.
Mark was a friend who was genuine, accepting, generous, and supportive. He also would not hesitate to tell you if he thought you were out of bounds.
Mark will be greatly missed by his family and friends who will remember his response when faced with challenges – “It is what it is.”
