The funeral will be held Friday, March 6, 2015 from Brandon Funeral Home, 305 Wanoosnoc Rd., with a Mass at 11:00 am in Our lady of the Lake Church, 100 Main St., Leominster. Burial will follow in St. Bernard’s Cemetery. Calling hours are Thursday from 4-7pm and Friday from 9:30-10:30am. FITCHBURG – Maria Grazia (Balbo) Salamone, 94, passed away Friday, February 27, 2015 peacefully in her home. She was born July 1, 1920 in Springfield, Massachusetts, the daughter of Santo and Filippa (Salamone) Balbo.

 

Maria Grazia had returned to Italy as a child and came back to the United States on February 25, 1954 with her daughter, Grace, to create a better life for her family. Her husband, Salvatore, followed later with their other children, Philip and Phyllis. Their life in America proved to be a blessing as they built a wonderful life for themselves and welcomed their daughter, Sandra.

 

Her family was the most important part of her life. Her greatest pleasure was to cook and especially enjoyed when her family joined her to make traditional recipes to celebrate the holidays. She took pleasure in knitting and worked as a skilled seamstress, at Margolins. A member of St. Anthony di Padua Church and Madonna della Cava Society.

 

 

She leaves her son, Philip Salamone and his wife, Joan (Korkala), of Malden, three daughters, Grace Salamone and her husband, Vincenzo, of Fitchburg, Phyllis Tessier and her husband, Bernard, of Leominster and Sandra Wallmann and her husband, Peter, of Lunenburg; her grandchildren, Diane Salamone and her fiancé, Michael Catallozzi, Phil Salamone and his wife, Mary, Salvatore Salamone and companion, MaryAnn Ramos, Mary MacDonald and her husband, Steven, Salvatore Salamone, Paula Carr and her husband, Jonathan, Scott Tessier and his wife, Nila, Peter and Michael Wallmann; and great grandchildren, Stevie and Connor MacDonald, Maria and Dominic Carr and Jaxen Tessier. She also leaves many cousins, nieces and nephews.

 

She was predeceased by her husband, Salvatore Salamone who passed away in 1981 as well as her brother, Conio Balbo and her three sisters, Lucia Salamone, Rosaria Viola and Vincenza DiPerri.
