The funeral will be held Monday, October 19, from Brandon Funeral Home, Fitchburg with a Mass at 11:30 am in St. Joseph’s Church, Fitchburg. Burial will follow in the Massachusetts Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, Winchendon. Calling hours are Monday from 9-11 am. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Fitchburg’s Veterans Homestead, 69 High Street, Fitchburg, MA 01420.
LEOMINSTER – Leonard J. Vilandry (Pep), 87, passed away Sunday, October 11, 2015 at home surrounded by his loving family.
Leonard was born in Leeds, MA on March 7, 1928 to Wilfred and Ida (Palmieri) Vilandry. Leonard was happily married for 57 years to Dolores (Dionne) Vilandry. He proudly served his country and was a World War II Veteran, serving in the Navy (May 1946-1948) and the Marines (May 1948-1956). Leonard worked as a boilermaker for 47 years at the Fitchburg Paper Company, was a lifetime member at the American Legion Post #429, (Past Commander), D.A.V. Chapter 30, V.F.W. #794 and the 1st Commandant of the Worcester County Marine Corps. League Detachment 1076
Leonard was a member of Saint Joseph’s Parish of Fitchburg, was a lifetime member of the Eastwood Club, and enjoyed singing (and playing the spoons) with the Veteran’s choral. Some of his greatest memories were made with his friends from these clubs and sharing his military experiences with the students of Crocker Elementary school in Fitchburg.
Pep loved traveling with friends to conventions, vacationing with family, and spending time with all of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His summers were spent camping in Old Orchard Beach, ME, where he enjoyed Terry’s book club, cribbage tournaments with Don, and building his models. Pep was an avid New England sports fan, but most of all he loved attending his great-grandchildren’s events.
Leonard was predeceased by his wife of 57 years, Dolores T. (Dionne) Vilandry. He leaves his son, Fredrick Vilandry and his wife, Anne, of Leominster with whom he resided and Leonard Vilandry, of Leominster. He also leaves his grandchildren, Amy Therrien and her husband Greg of Fitchburg, Dawn Marie Vilandry and her fiancé Sam Martin of Eliot, ME, his adopted grandson, John George Henry Bozicas and his wife Johanna of Fitchburg and his great grandchildren, Haley Martin, Connor Joseph Casacca, Shania Therrien, Chad Therrien, Alexander Mojica and Zackary Sam Houston Martin and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Francis Vilandry and Wilfred Vilandry and two sisters, Virginia Turnball and Ruth Rush.
