Lawrence J Fortin

Lawrence J. Fortin (Larry) passed away on January 25th at the young age of 86, after a brief illness. 

Born on Friday the 13th, January 1939 to the late David and Margaret (McDermott) Fortin. 


Larry is survived by his loving wife of 30 plus years Regina O’Brien-Fortin, his children Sally Fortin-Francis Rockland, Me, James (Andrea) Fortin, Fitchburg, Ma, Bernard (Heidi) Fortin, Fitchburg, Ma, Stephen Fortin, Exeter, NH, Peter (Mindy) LeBlanc Fitchburg, Ma, and Cindy Metivier Fitchburg, Ma. 


Brothers Richard (Lillian) Fortin, Ralph (Bud) (Irene) Fortin, Ronald (Gloria) Fortin, Dean (Barbara) Fortin, Thomas (Debra) Fortin, sister Pamela (Rich) Parker. 

His grandchildren Jonathan, Alicia, Mitchell, Kimberly, Emily, Pierce, Paige, Nicholas, Cassie, Jeremy and Alaina

He loved his family and was so proud of all of them. He is also survived by his first wife Gail Bernard, and his dear friends Eileen and Roland Rousseau. 


He was predeceased by his parents and a brother Kenneth Fortin.


He grew up in Fitchburg, attended St Bernards High School and graduated from Fitchburg High School. After High School Larry served in the Navy. Returning to Fitchburg he had a wonderful career at General Electric, retiring in 1994. 

In the late l960's he re-entered the Navy, serving as a Naval Reservist until his retirement as a Chief Petty Officer in 1986. 

In 1993 Larry and Regina embarked on a new adventure as owners of O’Brien’s Pub which they operated until 2005. He always said it was a “fun ride”. Larry and Regina spent the next 17 years enjoying Venice Florida where they made many more friends. He loved the sun, biking, the beach, and playing cards. 

Larry has spent these last two years at his home of 60-plus years in Fitchburg. He was a Lifetime Charter Member of the Eastwood Club, American Legion, and Fitchburg Senior Center. 

If you knew Larry, you knew a good joke. He will be missed by many.

A graveside service will be held at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 111 Glenallen Street, Winchendon, MA 01475, at a date to be determined.
