The funeral will be held from Brandon Funeral Home, 305 Wanoosnoc Rd., Fitchburg on Saturday, June 11, with a Mass in Saint Anthony’s Church in Fitchburg at 10:00am. Burial will follow in Saint Bernard’s Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Friday, June 10, from 4-7pm in the funeral home.
OBITUARY
Leominster – Josephine (Valera) Mammone, 100, of Leominster, formerly of Fitchburg, passed away Wednesday, June 8, surrounded by her loving family.
Josephine was born in Fitchburg on August 27, 1915, a daughter of the late Antonina and Giuseppe (DiNatale) Valera. She attended Fitchburg public schools though the 8th grade. At the age of 14, Josephine went to work for Dupont Viscoloid. Josephine also worked for many years at Rogers, Millers, St. Anthony’s cafeteria, Oak Hill Country Club, and the Sterling Inn. Always keeping busy and giving of herself, Josephine volunteered at the Burbank Hospital in child care.
She was a member for 50 years of the 3rd Order of the Secular Franciscan Order. Josephine was the oldest surviving member of the Order of Madonna Della Cava. She was a friend to many, and loved being around people. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Josephine had a very strong love of God, family, and her country.
She is survived by her children, Frank “Chip” Mammone of Leominster, JoAnn Valois of Fitchburg, DiAnn Deluca of Leominster, and Nina Rydzefski and her husband David of Leominster; nine grandchildren, Cheri Valois McGarvie, Dina Mammone Gagne, Steven Mammone, Michele Valois, Anneliese Deluca, Michael Deluca, Joanna Rydzefski, Jon Rydzefski, and Joseph Rydzefski; five great grandchildren; one sister, Isabel Boucher of Fitchburg.
Josephine was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Pasquale Mammone, and her son Philip Mammone in 1977.
