The funeral will held from Brandon Funeral Home, 305 Wanoosnoc Rd., Fitchburg on Friday, October 27, with a Mass in Saint Joseph Church, Fitchburg at 9:30am. Burial with military honors will follow in the Massachusetts Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery in Winchendon. Calling hours will be from 5-8pm on Thursday, October 26, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 260 Cochituate Rd. #200, Framingham, MA 01701.



 

OBITUARY

Fitchburg – Joseph L. Melanson, 66, of Fitchburg, passed away in Leominster Hospital on October 22, 2017.

Joe was born in Shediac, New Brunswick, Canada on April 20, 1951. He was the son of the late Leonard and Louise (Richard) Melanson. He enlisted in the US Marine Corps in 1968 and proudly served his country during the Vietnam War, being honorably discharged in 1971.

Joe worked as a Business Agent for 11 years for Local 39, serving 33 years in the Labor Union. He was a member of the Marine Corp League in Fitchburg and also the Monoosnock Country Club in Leominster. Joe served as treasurer for the Fitchburg Housing Authority, Director of Toys for Tots, and was very involved in Dollars Against Diabetes.

Joe was an avid sports fan, especially the RedSox. He loved to play golf and was an avid hunter.

He leaves his wife of 46 years, Mildred (Gaston) Melanson of Fitchburg, children, Arnold Melanson and wife Christina of Fitchburg, Dominic Melanson and wife Shelbie of Fitchburg, Kevin Melanson and wife Amanda of Athol; grandchildren, Megan, Dominic, Kenneth, Aidan, and Elizabeth Melanson; siblings, Raymond Melanson and wife Debra of Fitchburg, Leonard Melanson of Kansas, Hank Melanson of Washington, Frank Melanson and wife Kathy of Winchendon, Laurie Melanson and wife Linda of Fitchburg, Annette Melanson of Pennsylvania; many nieces and nephews.

Joe was predeceased by his brother Ronnie Melanson.
