Joseph Albert

May 21, 1929 — March 30, 2018

Fitchburg — Joseph “Joe” Albert, a navy veteran born and raised in Fitchburg who dedicated himself to life-long community service, passed away peacefully on Friday at the UMass Medical Center in Worcester with his family by his side. He was 88.

Born on May 21, 1929, Joe was the son of the late Charles and Lucia (Aiesi) Albert. Following graduation from Saint Bernard’s High School in 1947, Joe proudly went on to serve his country in the United States Navy, including the Korean War. Upon his return to Fitchburg, Joe studied accounting and later graduated from Becker Junior College.

For over 30 years, Joe worked for Sears Roebuck Company in Leominster and Fitchburg. He also continued in service to his local community, as Fitchburg Veterans Agent, Councilor for City Ward 1, and Councilor at-large. An active member of the Sons of Italy and the Regina Lodge, Joe also served as President of the American Legion Post 429.

Joe was deeply dedicated to his faith and was an active parishioner of St. Anthony di Padua Church of Fitchburg, where he could often be seen greeting fellow parishioners in support of the church.

For more than 50 years, Joe was a dedicated and loving husband to his late wife, Pauline (Sabourin) Albert. Joe was also a loving brother to his late siblings, Frank, Salvatore, and Philip Albert. He greatly enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren over the last several years, and sharing a vegetable garden with his brother.

Joe is survived by his children, Joseph A. Albert and wife Susan of Westminster; Mary L. Boudreau of Fitchburg; Michael A. Albert and wife Sandra of San Jose, CA; Anna M. Presutti of Wethersfield, CT; and, Joan M. Albert of Saco, ME. Joe is also survived by his grandchildren, Ross and Laura Albert, Amy and Beth Ann Boudreau, Nicholas, Courtney and Cory Albert, and Robert and Michael Presutti; four great-grand children; sisters-in law, Anna Sabourin, of Fitchburg, Arline Albert of Leominster, and Evie Albert of Westminster; brother-in law Douglas Scott and wife Claire of Florida; and many nieces and nephews.
