Raised on the Longley family farm in Shirley, MA, Jon was known as a hard worker with a positive attitude, strong sense of humor, and an endearing smile. He was an active member of the 4H club throughout his youth. He loved tractors and farm equipment and had a natural ability to operate and maintain them. In 1963, he graduated from Leominster Technical High School where his mechanical talents were fostered and he focused on carpentry.
In 1965, Jon was drafted into the U.S. Army. He served honorably in the Vietnam War. Upon returning from Vietnam, Jon began his career as a carpenter. He worked for Robert M. Hicks in Westford, MA for many years before starting his own business. His master carpentry can be found in hundreds of homes throughout New England. He had a meticulous eye for detail and took deep pride in quality craftsmanship.
In 1971, Jon married Nancy Madigan. They settled in Fitchburg, MA and started their family. Throughout their 50 years of marriage, they enjoyed many adventures together; including: seasonal camping in NH and ME, trips to Alaska and Ireland, and their biggest adventure: parenthood.
Jon’s family would like to express sincere gratitude to all of the wonderful health care workers at St. Vincent’s Critical Care Center in Worcester, MA., Life Care Center in Leominster, MA. and UMass Memorial Health Alliance, Leominster, MA.
