As a child, John grew up in Holden and North Grafton. He graduated from Grafton Memorial High School in 1963, thereafter serving in the U.S. Navy on the USS Essex during the Vietnam War Era. Honorably discharged, he then attended Worcester Junior College at night while working at Wyman Gordon Company in Worcester.

He attended the Worcester Police Academy and was a Special Police Officer for several years in the city of Worcester. His greatest passion in life was serving the community through the work of his business. He made a difference in the lives of many people in the housing communities in and around Leominster. He often hired college students majoring in criminal justice, and was very proud that 54 employees who worked for his company became Police Officers. John was recognized as a Leader in the Industry of Security and received the Presidential Who’s Who Award among Business and Professional Achievers Award in 2012. He always stated that he “never had a job” because he loved the work in which he was involved.
