John F. Rice Iii

April 6, 1949 — April 27, 2016

The funeral will be held in Brandon Funeral Home, 305 Wanoosnoc Rd., Fitchburg on Monday, May 2, at 10:00am. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, May 1, from 4-6pm.

In lieu of flowers the family request that memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St. Framingham, MA 01701.



OBITUARY

Fitchburg – John F. Rice, III, 67, of Fitchburg passed away Wednesday, April 27, 2016 in the Rose Monahan Hospice Home in Worcester, surrounded by his loving family.

John was born in Fitchburg on April 6, 1949, a son of the late John F. Rice, Jr., and Gloria (Stedeford) Rice. He was a 1967 graduate of Fitchburg High School, and later went on to graduate from Fitchburg State College with a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting. He worked for 19 years as a Staff Accountant for the Montachusett Opportunity Council; he truly loved his job and his family appreciates the kindness his fellow employees showed him. John also worked for over 30 years for Safety Fund National Bank. John was a past Master at the Charles W. Moore Masonic Lodge.

John was passionate about his family, pets, and travels to Disney World. He loved firetrucks, tools, Goofy, and helping others. John lived his life in service to others and this brought him joy. He attended all sporting events, award ceremonies, and recitals for his nieces and nephews. He will be remembered for his joking, humbleness, and being a kind and caring man.

He leaves his loving wife Mary Laitila Rice of Fitchburg; sister, Cynthia Walker and husband Kit of Fitchburg; nieces Meghan Walker, Kristen Puleo, Heather Buiwit, and a nephew Nathan Buiwit; aunt Jane Spallina and husband Peter, and their children Kathyanne and Christopher Spallina; several great nieces and nephews, and cousins.

The family would like to extend a most sincere thank you to the Rose Monahan Hospice Home in Worcester, as well as Barbara and Kerry at the Simonds Sinon Cancer Center.
