The funeral will be held from Brandon Funeral Home, 305 Wanoosnoc Rd., Fitchburg on Monday, March 20, with a Mass at 10am in Our Lady of the Lake Church in Leominster. Burial will follow in Saint Bernard’s Cemetery. Calling hours are from 4-8pm in the funeral home on Sunday, March 19.
John (Jack) F. Mulcahy lll, 63, passed away on Wednesday, March 15th after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born on September 13, 1953 in Fitchburg, the son of John F. Mulcahy and Gloria M. (Levanti) Mulcahy.
He was predeceased by his wife, Margaret (Page) Mulcahy who passed much too young also of pancreatic cancer, His father, John F. Mulcahy, his maternal grandparents former Mayor of Fitchburg Peter J. Levanti and his wife Rosanna (Spadafora),his paternal grandparents John F. Mulcahy and his wife F. Louise (Phelps).
He is survived by his mother, Gloria M. Mulcahy of Fitchburg, his son Patrick J. Mulcahy and his fiancé Angela Eldridge of Jaffrey, NH, his two daughters, Meghan E. Cameron and her husband James of Leominster, Chelsea P. Mulcahy of Fitchburg with whom he resided, his two sisters, Debra A. Jeffries and her husband Steven of Fitchburg, Sandra G. Lawrence and her husband Jay of Parrish, Florida. In addition, he leaves the most precious gifts in his world – his grandchildren! Dustin the first who will also carry on the Mulcahy name, Olivia, who was able to bring a smile to his face even during his last days, and the baby to be arriving in August, named “Jack” after his papa! He also leaves many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and his former wife, Denise I. (Blouin) Mulcahy.
Jack graduated from St. Bernard’s Central Catholic High School in 1971. Throughout these years, he was known for his baseball skills and was seen as a promising prospect by many. He also played the guitar and drums in bands with friends and was known for having nice cars.
Jack was the most senior man on the Fitchburg Fire Department. He joined the Fire Department as a provisional firefighter on July 1, 1974 and served in that position until October 17, 1976. Jack later rejoined the fire department as a permanent firefighter on Feb 17, 1978 where he went on to serve the city of Fitchburg for 41 years. He fought many fires over the years, but the one that always remained vivid in his mind was the fire at the Woolen Mill building on September 16, 1986. This particular fire almost took his life and that of his close friend.
Jack “Mulky” had many friends and enjoyed their companionship whether it was playing softball, golf, hunting, or going for rides on his Harley Davidson. There will be an emptiness felt by many.
He was a member of the South Fitchburg Social Club, The South End National Club, and the Fitchburg Lodge of Elks.
