Lancaster – Joan M. (Cosenza) McCumber, 83, passed away unexpectedly in her home on March 22, 2019.

Joan was born in Leominster on January 10, 1936, a daughter of the late John and Anastacia (Kuropatkin) Cosenza. She attended Leominster schools. She met her husband “Mac” while in high school at the Teenage Canteen and they were married on May 31, 1953. While raising her family, Joan worked at the former Carol Cosmetics in Fitchburg. She became a cafeteria worker at the former Carter Junior High School after her children reached school age and then returned to retail with Victory Markets. Her final and most fulfilling employment was as a Certified Home Health Aide for Montachusett Home Care where for over 15 years she provided compassionate in-home assistance to several senior citizens throughout Leominster and Fitchburg until her retirement in 2001.

Joan loved to cook, entertain, dance, jigsaw puzzles and travel, especially to Florida in the spring and fall where, for over 30 years, she got an early start on her tan and caught some final rays before winter. After her husband’s death, she visited Ireland to kiss the Blarney Stone in his honor.

She is survived by her daughter Susan Bisol and her husband Thomas of Leominster; her son, Jack McCumber of Leominster; three grandchildren, Talia Branger, Jay McCumber, and Michael McCumber; one great granddaughter, Kylee McCumber; a sister Nancy White and her husband Douglas of FL; several nieces and nephews.

Joan was predeceased by her husband Paul (Mac) S. McCumber; her son Paul J. McCumber, and her brother Jack Cosenza.
