A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, January 5, 2023 at 11 am in St. Edward the Confessor Church, 10 Church St., Westminster. Burial will follow in Woodside Cemetery, Narrows Road, Westminster.
A calling hour will be held on Thursday, January 5, 2023 from 9 – 10 am at the Brandon Funeral Home, 305 Wanoosnoc Road, Fitchburg.
WESTMINSTER – Joan F. McCall was the wife of deceased LTC John J. McCall (retired) for 61 years. She was the daughter of the late William H. Wells and Marie B. Wells from Pennsylvania.
She is survived by her daughter Katherine C Moran and her husband, Dr. Kevin J. Moran, Sr and a son James T. McCall with his wife Anne Hyde McCall and her sister Rose Marie Wells. Her son, John J. McCall, III, her brothers, Jack Wells, Bill Wells, and sisters Kae Patterson, Ruth McFall predeceased her.
She leaves nine grandchildren, Kevin J Moran Jr and his wife Lindsay, Ryan K. Moran and his wife Melissa, Meagan Moran Jarvis and her husband Ross, Colleen J. Moran, Justin McCall, Jordan McCall, John Michael McCall (deceased), Colin McCall and his wife Julia, Timothy McCall, Grace McCall, several great grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.
Joan and her husband lived in Germany while he was in the military, where their sons were born on two different tours of duty. While in Germany she served as Vice President of the Military Council of Catholic Women and in that capacity organized the first multi-day retreat for army wives. As a avid bridge player, Joan and her partner won second place in an International Tournament of Europe and Asia.
Joan was a Red Cross volunteer and Chairman of Volunteers at Fort Devens where she re-wrote the volunteer training course to make it more germane to military wives. She was on the Board of Trustees and its chairman at the Forbush Library in Westminster. She was a docent (tour guide) at the Fitchburg Art Museum for over 15 years. In addition, during these years Joan was a loving and devoted daughter, sister, mother, aunt and friend to many.
