Jean M. Christian

Jean M. Christian (Nelson), age 82, of New Ipswich, NH, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family on April 5, 2023. She is the loving wife of Raymond H. Christian.

Jean was born to the late Walter and Elin (Johnson) Nelson, in Worcester, MA, on November 18, 1940. Jean grew up in Worcester and was very active at Zion Lutheran church, it was there that she made lifelong friends with Susan and Barbara.  Jean completed her Bachelor and Master’s degree at  Framingham State College. She married Ray in 1971 and they raised four children together.

She was a Home Economics teacher for 30 years and retired in 2006.  Jean was enthusiastic to share her love of sewing, cooking and health education to middle and high school students.  She was a leader  in her community and was loved by many.  Jean was an avid snowmobiler, water skier, downhill  skier, cross country  skier, hiker, gardener and loved puzzles.  She enjoyed being outdoors, attending yoga classes and traveling and always had a book with her.  Jean, also known as Mammy, was an incredible grandmother and loved spending time with her grandchildren.  She shared her positive zest for life and had a contagious laugh.

Jean is predeceased by her parents Walter A. Nelson and Elin (Johnson) Nelson, her daughter Katherine Jean Greenwood, her sister Doris E. Carlson and nephew Steven Carlson. She is survived by her loving husband of fifty-two years, Raymond H. Christian, her children Robert Doe Christian and wife Lisa, Loralyn (Christian) LaBombard and husband Greg, Timothy Christian and wife Kelly.  Jean also leaves ten beloved grandchildren and two great- grandchildren. She will be truly missed by all that knew her.

Family and friends will gather to honor and remember Jean for a period of visitation on Sunday, April 16, 2023, from 2:00 PM- 5:00 PM at Brandon Funeral Home, 305 Wanoosnoc Rd. Fitchburg, MA 01420. A mass will be celebrated for Jean on Monday, April 17, 2023, at the Emanuel Lutheran Church, 1200 John Fitch Highway, Fitchburg, MA 01420, at 10:00 AM. Burial will be private at a later date.
