James J. Larkin
June 24, 1940 — March 31, 2024
Lunenburg, MA
Lunenburg - James J. Larkin, affectionately known as Jim, left the world on March 31, 2024, leaving a legacy of love and laughter. Born on June 24, 1940 in Newton, MA, Jim's reliable nature and funny wit made him a beacon of joy to all who met him. Jim was a devoted husband to his wife of 45 years, Sheila, who survives him. He was a very positive role model and loving stepfather to Darrell Maki. He was preceded in death by his wonderdul parents, Robert and Mary (Lynch) Larkin and his brother Robert Larkin Jr.
Jim was a dedicated systems engineer in the technology sector at GenRad and Polycom before his retirement. He was a passionate member of the Maserati Club, the Mid State Antique Auto Club and the Antique Auto Club of America. May God grant Jim a front row seat at the Antique Auto shows in Heaven.
His interest in family genealogy and the history of Lunenburg led him to become a curator for the Lunenburg Historical Society, a role he cherished, especially Whalom Park memorabilia. He served in the US Navy from 1961-1966. Jim was also an avid metal detector, always looking for hidden treasures. Jim, his siblings and family frequently shared many stories of their bird watching sightings.
Family was everything to Jim, and he was the cornerstone who could be relied upon. His support and love for his wife Sheila was a testament to his beautiful heart. They joyfully traveled the road of life together in many of his classic cars. Among their many Blessings were sharing time in Lunenburg and at their Harwich home, metal detecting at the beach year-round. It was all very special to them.
Jim was the oldest son, followed by Robert Larkin Jr, Richard Larkin and his partner Martha Brooks, J. Philip Larkin and his wife Susan, Paul Larkin, Patricia (Larkin) Webber and her husband Mark. Jim was also the loved son-in-law of the late John and Lucille Mammone. He leaves his sisters-in-law and their spouses, Nancy and Kevin Courtney, Lisa and Leonard Coakley, Cheryl and Robin Rohlicek. He shared many family reunions and cookouts together with them. Jim had many nieces and nephews whom he cherished greatly.
We encourage you to share your memories of Jim and upload photos to his memorial page at www.brandonfuneral.com. Let us remember Jim, not with sorrow, but with the same joy and laughter he brought into our lives.
