Calling hours will be at the Brandon Funeral Home, 305 Wanoosnoc Rd., Fitchburg on Tuesday October 4th from 3-6 pm and a funeral mass at St. Leo’s Church, 108 Main St. Leominster on Wednesday October 5th at 10am. Burial will be held privately in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem, MA. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Mr. Barry’s memory may be made to the Boy’s and Girl’s Club of Fitchburg and Leominster, 365 Lindell Ave., Leominster, MA 01453.
Fitchburg- James H. Barry Jr., 90 died peacefully on September 30 at home surrounded by his family. Born on May 6, 1926 in Danvers, he was a son of the late James Howard Barry and Rose Marie (Moore) Barry. Jim enlisted in the United States Navy at seventeen years old and served in combat in the South Pacific in World War II as a quartermaster on the USS Panda. Jim later graduated from St. John’s Prep in Danvers and went on to St. Michael’s College, Winooski Vermont, Class of 1951 where he was the Class President and a Golden Gloves boxer. He went on to earn a Masters degree in Labor Relations at Cornell University. He was employed for thirty-seven years by the Foster Grant Company where he was the Director of Purchasing. Following his career at Foster Grant he founded International Products Group Inc. in 1991 which he operated for fifteen years. Jim made more than seventy sourcing trips to China, South Korea, Taiwan and Japan. He was a thirty-three year member of the Oak Hill Country Club in Fitchburg where he enjoyed tennis and golf. Jim also enjoyed coaching and attending many of his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events. His greatest enjoyment was spending time with his family and vacationing at Nauset beach in Orleans, MA , Bermuda and Marco Island with his wife. He previously resided in Lunenburg for thirty-seven years. He is survived by his wife of fifty-seven years Kathleen H. (Aubuchon) Barry, his three sons, James H. Barry III and his wife Martha of Greensboro, NC, Kevin M. Barry and his wife Susan of Beverly Farms, Christopher R. Barry of Newton, his daughter, Ellen Sargent and her husband Robert of Chelmsford. He is survived by seven grandchildren, James W. Barry, Virginia Barry, Allison Barry, Kevin Barry Jr., William Barry, Gregory Sargent, Nicholas Sargent and his sister, Therese Richards of Hamilton. Jim was predeceased by his siblings Edward Barry, Rose Anne Merrill, Catherine Barry, Ruth Barry, Rita Stevens and Jane Dippo.
