FITCHBURG – J. Edward Leger, 94, a lifelong resident of Fitchburg, passed away peacefully in the Fitchburg Gardens Nursing Home on November 1, 2018.
Edward was born in Fitchburg on April 27, 1924, a son of the late Emile and Alma (Gagnon) Leger.
Edward proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII, until his honorable discharge.
He spent his career as a carpenter, being both self-employed and working for Rollo Construction, Dick White Construction, and the James Monroe Wire Co. until his retirement in 1992.
In his younger days, Mr. Leger enjoyed a game of pool or cribbage. He also enjoyed all things relating to history particularly documentaries or books about WWII.
Edward was predeceased by his wife Grace (Valera) Leger in 2003, as well as his brother George Leger, sister Shirley Richard and nephew, Gary Richard of Fitchburg.
He is survived by his brother-in-law Gerard R. Richard of Fitchburg and relatives, Gerard E. Richard of Boston and David Chavolla of Boston; Ran-Dell Knight and her husband Edward of Worcester, several nieces, nephew, cousins and several relatives in New Brunswick, Canada.
