Helen Janice (Becrelis) Gamache, 92, of Leominster, passed peacefully from this earth in her home on February 27, 2015 after a brief battle with cancer.
She was born on August 17, 1922 in Leominster, Mass., daughter of the late George and Marion (LaPrade) Becrelis. Helen was a graduate of Leominster High School. In her early years Helen and her sisters worked at their father’s Leominster store, The BC (Boston Confectionary). She became a Registered Nurse through the Leominster Hospital School of Nursing. She worked in various departments at the Leominster Hospital for her entire nursing career of forty years, ending her career as the Director of Purchasing.
After retiring she enjoyed many years of international travel with her husband, Bob. She and her husband were both actively involved in the American Ex-Prisoners of War organization, a source of both healing and companionship for both of them.
Helen loved life and people. She was nick-named “Epi” for her contagious laughter. She relished being included in what was going on and was the source of fun, gentle mischief and humor to the end of her life. After her husband’s passing in 2000 she was graciously and warmly enveloped by the loving extended family of her sister and friend, Kitty Bilotta.
Helen is survived by: her daughters and sons in-law, Dr. Janice Gamache and Dmitri Koluch of Alexandria, VA and Pat and Tom Streeter of Raleigh, NC; her two loving granddaughters, Megan McCray of Baltimore, MD and Tara McCray of Lynnwood, WA; and her sister Kitty Bilotta; her sister and brother-in-law Pat and Ray Pothier.
Helen was pre-deceased by her husband of 52 years, Robert C Gamache in 2000, and also her sisters Frances (Becrelis) Theriault, Alice (Becrelis) Eickhorst and Irene Becrelis.
