Glenda L. (Losier) Malley, 83, of Leominster, MA, passed away on Tuesday, June 14, 2022 surrounded by family, after battling several health issues.
Glenda was born on April 30, 1939 to Exibe and Régina (Landry) Losier in Troute Stream, New Brunswick, Canada.
Glenda graduated boarding school 3 years early and at just 15 years old was the only recipient in her province to be offered a full scholarship and living stipend to her choice of either McGill University or Dalhousie University. She attended the Jeanne Mance School of Nursing in Tracadie, where she earned her RN license. In 1960 she moved to Leominster, MA, and on August 4, 1962, Glenda married the love of her life, Donald Malley.
Glenda had a long and successful nursing career and enjoyed continuing her education. While raising a family, she earned her BS in Nursing from Fitchburg State University and a master’s degree in management from Lesley University. Glenda was one of three nurses selected to start the first Intensive Care Unit at Leominster Hospital, which is still in use today. In addition to day-to-day nursing, she served as a nursing instructor for 10 years, passing on her vast medical knowledge. She moved to the Berkshires for a brief period to open the first diabetic clinic at Berkshire Medical Center. Afterwards, she returned to Leominster Hospital where she aided in the facilities accreditation, served as a nursing manager on floor 3 East, and was listed in the Who’s Who in American Nursing for 1990-1991.
In her free time, Glenda greatly enjoyed spending time with her family, reading the day away, and relaxing on the beach. She and her husband made a lovely pair dancing during family events. She was by far the most supportive mother when watching her children play sports, and her passionate spectatorship continued at her granddaughters’ games and events, who brought her immense pride.
Glenda is survived by her husband of 59 years, Donald Malley; daughters Jo-Ann (Jan) Martino and Marsha (Michael) Ring; son Patrick Malley (Michelle Johnston); granddaughters Julia (Kieran) Cochrane, Hannah Martino (Christian Laurent), Rachel (Emmanuel) Okai, and Shannon Ring; great-grandchildren Kennedy, Greyson, and Emerson Okai, and Phoenix Laurent; siblings Roger (Marcelle) Losier, Annette Chevalier, Paulette Carrier, Mathieu (Rose-Marie) Losier, and Rheal Losier; sisters-in-law Raymonde Losier and Murielle Landry; and many nieces and nephews. Glenda was predeceased by her parents Exibe and Régina Losier; siblings Albeo, Charles, Claudette, Jeanne-Mance, Sylvia, and Rose-Mai Losier; brothers-in-law Robert Chevalier and Jean-Claude Carrier; and sisters-in-law Sylvia (John) O’Malley, Janice (George) Chapman, and Jacqueline (Guilio) Perla.
