A funeral service will be held at 12:30, Saturday, August 12 at the Brandon Funeral Home, 305 Wanoosnoc Rd., Fitchburg. A visitation period will be from 11:00 until 12:30. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery in Fitchburg.Flowers may be sent or please consider a memorial contribution to a charity of your choice in Gertrude’s name.
Fitchburg- Gertrude W. (Kaski) Arvo, 93 passed away on Monday, August 7 at her residence.
She was born on May 26, 1924 a daughter to the late Erkki and Ilmi (Luoma) Kaski and has resided in Fitchburg for many years. She was a graduate of Ashby High School, class of 1942.
Mrs. Arvo is predeceased by her husband Richard Arvo who died in 1984.
Gertrude is survived by one son, Alex Arvo of Fitchburg, two daughters, Karen Couturier of Ashburnham, Kathryn Arvo- MacKenzie of Leominster, six grandchildren, Amanda Couturier- Cormier and her husband Jason, Lauren Couturier, Cameron MacKenzie and his wife Nikki Malgeri-MacKenzie, Elise McConnell and her husband Chadwick, Julia MacKenzie and her partner Steve Cormier and Colin MacKenzie, four great grandchildren, Annabelle, Rylynn, Evelyn, and Mack.
She was the sister of the late Elma Gogan who died in 2011.
Mrs. Arvo was employed at General Electric in Fitchburg in 1943 when it first opened. She also worked at the Singer Sewing Machine Store and Mrs. Williams Invisible Mending Shop, both in Fitchburg.
Mrs. Arvo took great pride working at the Naval Shipyard at Puget Sound in Bremerton, Washington during WWII and supporting the war effort. Gertrude was a talented artist and a member of the Leominster Art Association. She was an excellent seamstress and enjoyed sewing for her family. She loved outdoor hikes and country line dancing.
