Gerard Croteau

The funeral will be held from Brandon Funeral Home, 305 Wanoosnoc Rd., Fitchburg on Tuesday, March 15, with a Mass in Saint Joseph Church, Fitchburg at 11:00am. Burial will follow in Saint Joseph Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Monday, March 14, from 4-7 pm in the funeral home.



OBITUARY

Fitchburg and Port St. Lucie, FL- Gerard Croteau, 86, of Fitchburg and Port St. Lucie, FL, passed away in Treasure Coast Hospice in Fort Pierce, FL on March 5, 2016 from complications following an accident.

Gerard was born in Fitchburg on April 21, 1929, a son of the late Joseph and Agnes (Begnoche) Croteau. A loving husband and father of five, Gerry graduated from Fitchburg High School in 1947, as the first 3 Letterman. He was well known for his late winning extra-point kick during the 7-6 victory over Leominster High School in the famous rivalry game of 1946. He went on to Assumption College on the first ever basketball scholarship from FHS, departing to serve in the Air Force. A sport enthusiast his whole life, he was a local referee, umpire, and coach. He was a loyal fan of the Boston Red Sox and NE Patriots. Gerry was an avid card player, who enjoyed his retirement years in Port St. Lucie in Florida, paying racquetball, softball, and bowling; with his wife as his partner, he was a champion shuffleboard player. He was a loyal employee for Weyerhaeuser, James River and their affiliates for 45 years. He was a deeply religious and active member of Saint Joseph Parish; where he was also a Eucharistic Minister and Lector.

Gerard is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Ann (LeBlanc) Croteau; five children, Kathryn Phaneuf and husband James of Belchertown, MA, Richard Croteau and wife Roxanna of San Jose, CA, Sandra Croteau of Nashua, NH, Patricia Graham and husband Paul of Medfield, MA, and Thomas Croteau and wife Suzanne of Roswell, GA. He will be greatly missed by 15 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his brother Richard Croteau in 2015.
