Fitchburg- George P. Gillis, 77, died Saturday, July 8, 2023, at Wachusett Rehab and Nursing in Gardner after an illness.
He leaves his wife Kazuko (Kanai) Gillis; one daughter, Katrina Snow and her husband Arthur Cedric Snow of Fitchburg; one grandson, Duncan Kanai Snow of Fitchburg.
George is predeceased by four brothers, William Gillis, Jr., Francis Gillis, Richard Gillis and James Gillis.
He was born in Fitchburg on December 25, 1945, a son of the late William J. and Florence M. (Clement) Gillis. He graduated from Fitchburg High School and served in the US Army as an Operating Room Specialist during Viet Nam. He continued to serve in the US Army Reserve 5th Armored Cavalry, D-Troop for many years afterwards
He was the owner and operator of Mr. G’s Party Center in Leominster for many years.
George had a tremendous love of football. When George was in High School he played football and was the Special Teams Captain. He was an assistant coach at Notre Dame High School in Fitchburg when Katrina was a student there. He also enjoyed playing competitive darts in the Fitchburg City League and at the Knights of Columbus in Fitchburg. He was a member and past Commander of the Former AMVETS Post 29 in Fitchburg and a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #99 in Fitchburg, he was a Fourth Degree Knight and past Grand Knight.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, July 14, 2023, from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. in the Brandon Funeral Home, 305 Wanoosnoc Road, Fitchburg, MA 01420.
George’s funeral mass will be held on Saturday, July 15, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Bernard Parish @ St. Camillus Church, 333 Mechanic Street, Fitchburg, MA 01420.
His burial will be at St. Bernard Cemetery, Fitchburg at a later date.
The family requests no Lillie's due to a family allergy.
