Leominster – Frank C. Cannavino, 91, of Leominster, passed away on Sunday, December 24, 2017 in Health Alliance Hospital.
Frank was born in Fitchburg on October 11, 1926, a son of the late James and Maria (Palombo) Cannavino. He proudly served his country in the US Army during the Korean War, until his honorable discharge.
He worked with his brothers at the family business of Cannavino & Shea Construction. A few of the family’s accomplishments; in 1950-1953, they helped in the building of Route 2, and later the construction of the Bernardian Bowl. In 1979, along with Wes Construction Co. in Dedham, Frank crossed the Charles River during the clean-up. Frank was one of the best Heavy Equipment Operators in the area; his most recent work was done at the new Doyle Football Field in Leominster.
He was a wonderful father and husband. Many will remember the feisty badminton games and BBQ’s that occurred frequently. If you needed anything, he was there. He will be missed by many and remembered fondly by anyone who knew him.
He is survived by his wife Iona (Vaillancourt) Cannavino; three daughters, Debra and her husband Joseph Cosenza, Doreen Cannavino Ricker, and Denise Cannavino, all of Leominster. He leaves six grandchildren, Meghan, David, Derek, Nicole, Craig, and Brandon; five great grandchildren, Anthony, Isaac, Hailey, Madison, and Fabian. He also leaves three nieces, Theresa Morin, Maryanne Cavins, and Jane (Cannavino) Kennedy, two nephews, Peter and Richard Cannavino.
Frank was predeceased by his brothers Mike, Louis “Pin”, and Anthony Cannavino, and his sister Ann (Cannavino) Spagnuolo, as well as his nephews, James, Paul, and Michael Cannavino, and a niece, Karen Plotkin.
