Francis J. Dupont, Sr.

January 22, 1927 — July 10, 2018

Calling hours will be held in Brandon Funeral Home, 305 Wanoosnoc Rd., Fitchburg on Monday, July 16, from 9-11am. A service will begin at 11:00am. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Fitchburg.

In lieu of flowers the family request memorial contributions be made to the Sterling Animal Shelter, 17 Laurelwood Rd., Sterling, Ma 01564.



Fitchburg – Francis J. Dupont, Sr., 91, of Fitchburg, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on July 10, 2018.

Born in Fitchburg on January 22, 1927, to the late Honore and Emilia (Lamy) Dupont. He attended Saint Bernard’s Catholic High School. Francis entered the Navy at 17 and was a Veteran of World War II serving on the ship Poseidon.For over 50 years worked as Toolmaker, Designer, and Engineer for various companies throughout his career (Independent Lock, Hudson Lock, Teradyne), He was also a part of several patents eventually retiring from Digital Equipment Corporation in 1994.

He was incredibly creative from making his own cribbage boards to building and restoring houses; he was always working on a project. He enjoyed carpentry and built many homes with his sons including Dupont Circle in Leominster and in recent years has devoted his time working to restore and upgrade his historic home and 100 acres in Maine.

He loved to be with his large family playing cribbage, skiing, painting, playing pond hockey and spending summers on Cape Cod with Jacqui,

He is survived by his five sons, Stephen Dupont and wife Aida of Roswell, GA, Michael Dupont and wife Barbara of Fitchburg, David Dupont and wife Maureen of Boston, Kenneth Dupont and companion Jan Sullivan of Fitchburg, Francis J. Dupont, Jr., and wife Pamela of Sterling. He is also survived by his significant other, Jacquelyn Jurga of Fitchburg; 12 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; sister, Theresa David of Fitchburg; many nieces and nephews, and his beloved dog, Meggie.

Francis was predeceased by his siblings, Eva Thibault, Henry, Leo, and John Paul Dupont, Simmone Cormier and Evelyn Gonthier.
