Francis A. Bastine, Jr.

January 13, 1933 — April 30, 2022

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00am, Thursday, May 5 in the Our of The Lake Church, 1400 Main St., Leominster. Burial will be in St. Anthony’s Cemetery in Shirley. A calling hour will be from 9:30-10:30 prior to the Mass in The Brandon Funeral Home, 305 Wanoosnoc Rd., Fitchburg.



 

Sterling- Francis A. Bastine Jr., 89 passed away on Saturday, April 30 in the Sterling Village Nursing Center.

Mr. Bastine was born in Ayer on January 13, 1933, a son of the late Francis and Emma (Thomas) Bastine. He had resided in Leominster for many years after being a longtime resident in Shirley.

He is predeceased by his wife of 59 years, Theresa E. (Favreau) Bastine who passed away in November, 2020.

Mr. Bastine is survived by his son, Francis A. Bastine III and his wife, Renee of Lunenburg, 3 grandchildren, Brendan Bastine and husband, Steven, Cory Bastine and wife, Jillian, Alysha Marcil and husband, Matthew, and 3 great grandchildren, Brooke, Ava, and Sophia.

Mr. Bastine attended St. Anthony’s School in Shirley and St. Bernard’s High School in Fitchburg. He was a former member of the Holy Name Society in Shirley, AARP, American Legion and Golden Age Club both of Shirley.

Mr. Bastine proudly served his country in the US Air Force. He then worked for ITT Surprenant where he met his wife.  He then studied to be a barber at Braum’s Barber School in Worcester and worked in Shirley as a Barber for Michaud’s Barber Shop for a couple of years.  He worked for the Colonial Press for many years following, and he then found an opportunity at Digital Equipment Corporation, where he worked as a stock room clerk for many years until his retirement.  He spent the majority of his early retirement caring for his grandchildren and enjoying their activities on the sports fields.

He was an avid Red Sox fan and looked forward to watching all the Boston sports teams. He had a vivid memory for all things sports and we all looked forward to talking to him about how the teams were doing.
